The Dagpo Shedrup Ling Monastery is an important Buddhist institution in the Kullu Valley in Northern India, right at the foothills of the Himalayas. The site is located at an altitude of 1,430m, in Himachal Pradesh (Northern India), about 400 km north of New Delhi. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama inaugurated the monastery in 2005, and since then remains under His patronage. The Monastery aims to guarantee the preservation of the Tibetan monastic traditions and to benefit the local and international community. The complex also comprises a Tibetan Buddhist Monastic University with 180 Monks who work and study there.

Unfortunately, the monastery is subjected to natural hazards (earthquakes, landslides and monsoons) because of its unfavourable location.

Geological, geomorphological, geotechnical and hydrogeological investigations have been performed in November 2021:

Aerial photograph interpretation and field survey;
4 Seismic refraction tomography (SRT);
4 Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW);
Soil investigations campaign: 15 boreholes (9 up to 20 m, 6 up to 30 m), Standard Penetration Tests (every 3 meters), 2 samples per borehole for laboratory testing, 8 Piezometers, Field Permeability Tests.

The geological investigations will be used also for the design of new buildings and for the seismic assessment and retrofit of the existing ones.
