The Industrial Technical Institute – School of Applied Sciences Galileo Galilei is a prestigious high school in Rome. Established in 1919, the Industrial Institute is amongst the oldest high-tech technical training schools in the capital, and throughout Italy.

The facilities located in the Esquilino district (Via Conte Verde 51) are made of several building blocks. The building block E has been closed for years due to settlement issues and diffuse cracking patterns.

Hopper Engineering and Consultancy BV worked as subcontractor for IBIS Engineering and carried out the detailed design of the building.

The challenge was to conserve the original 1919 facades, while simultaneously re-building the rest of the edifice on a piled foundation. The new structure design made of steel helped to simplify and speed up the construction.
