Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) is expanding its Jebel Ali refinery in order to increase its capacity by 50%. The expansion is also expected to enable the refinery to produce cleaner fuels that comply with Euro IV standards. ENOC’s $1bn expansion project was originally announced in September 2016 and is being carried out in three phases. The upgraded refinery is expected to be fully operational by the fourth quarter of 2019.
The energy consumption of the UAE is growing at a rate of 9% per year and the expanding population is expected to further increase the demand for energy. This expansion project will enable the UAE’s power infrastructure to grow sustainably to anticipate future energy needs. It will also allow the country to become self-sufficient in the production of domestic fuels, as well as produce a range of products for export.
Hopper Engineering and Consultancy provided services for the detailed design of the following reinforced concrete buildings:
- Electrical Substations 42 and 44;
- Rack rooms 42 and 44;
- Transformers for Rack rooms and Substations 42 and 44;
The design complies with the American code. Each building also observes the relevant earthquake and blast loadings by means of linear (modal response analyses) and non-linear analyses (non-linear time histories) performed with STAAD Pro v8i and SAP2000.
