Maria Iatropoulou

GRADUATE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

Maria Iatropoulou is a graduate Civil Engineer of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specialized in Structural Engineering, and obtains a second Masters in Earthquake Engineering. For her Master’s thesis, she worked on the seismic assessment of an old reinforced concrete mid-rise building in Thessaloniki, Greece and proposed a new design for its repair and structural strengthening, realizing the importance of protecting building structures and extending their lifespan. Mary worked as a site Civil Engineer in Greece, supervising the construction works of a 9.500 m² university building, contributing significantly to designing a structure that not only follows the requirements of the regulations, but also delivers efficiency. Her work included overseeing the static reinforcement of columns with sprayed concrete jackets as well as reviewing designs, liaising with main subcontractors, and conducting research on new products and construction methods. Mary also worked on renovation and renewable energy projects which exposed her to the practical application of the concepts of sustainability and digital design.
Today, Mary is part of Hopper Engineering and Consultancy BV with the role of Graduate Structural/Seismic Engineer.
